The (IABC) won the prestigious award at the professional organization's annual Leadership Institute, held Feb. 25, 2005 in Seattle.
The distinction is nothing more than a miraculous turnaround from where the chapter was five years ago. "Our membership had hit rock bottom, and the chapter was nearly disbanded," says Joy Capps Powell, president of IABC-San Antonio. "But, a group of core leaders -- Sheri Rosen, Betsy Pasley, Alex Filip and Lisa Owens -- believed that the ailing chapter was not lost, and set course for a revival, with very specific leadership initiatives and membership goals. "
Goals were met -- and recognized -- by the international professional organization, which serves 13,000 members in 97 chapters around the world. A little more than half are considered "small" chapters, with fewer than 75 members.
IABC-SA offers professional development and resources to communication professionals who come from all areas of the business community. The chapter also reaches out to the business community to share knowledge on the ways communication improves business results and offers professional communication resources through its member network.

A History of IABC San Antonio
In 1962, nine members organized to serve the San Antonio communications
community, calling the new group the Alamo Industrial Editors Association.
The organization soon affiliated with the International Council of
Industrial Editors, now IABC. As communication professions began to
change, the organization also changed to mirror growth in an industry
that was exploding.
In 1978, the group officially became IABC San Antonio. Local members
now were automatically aligned to the worldwide IABC organization
and received all services. Membership dues entitle members to services
provided by the international, district and local levels of IABC.
See Membership for more membership benefits or contact our Membership VP directly via e-mail.
